Representatives of Brazilian Food Industry Schools Visit Turkey at the Invitation of TFYI

Under the promotional activities being carried out in Brazil by Turkish Flour Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group (TFYI), Prof. Sílvia Helena Carabolante and Janaina Aparecida Mainardi, Food and Food Technology academicians of the Industrial Training School Escola Senai Horácio Augusto da Silveira, and Prof. Humberto Marzinotto Filho, academician of the Bread Making and Confectionery Industry Development Institute Instituto Do Desenvolvimento De Panificaçao E Confeitaria, were invited by TFYI to Turkey between 10-17 July 2016 with a view to promoting the flour and bakery products sector in Turkey. Said academicians paid a visit to Turkey within the framework of a program covering İstanbul, Ankara, Konya and Nevşehir provinces, accompanied by TFYI consultants Prof. Dr. Hamit KÖKSEL and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sertaç ÖZER and OAİB employees Burçay ENGÜZEL and Orhun Kerem SALMAN as well.

In the context of the planned visits to the industrial bakery products production facilities under the said program, technical visits were paid to İstanbul Halk Bread Making Corp. Cebeci Factory on 11 July 2016 and to Ankara Halk Bread Making Factory on 12 July 2016, and information was given and views were exchanged on the production technology, industrial structure and consumption characteristics with regard to the production of bakery products.

On 12 July 2016, a meeting was held at the premises of Central Anatolian Exporters Association (OAİB) with the attendance of the Brazilian academicians included in the delegation and TFYI Chairman Mr. Turgay ÜNLÜ. During the meeting, views were exchanged in connection with the cooperative activities being carried out with the said schools, and informative presentations were given mutually.

On the same day, a visit was paid to the Central Quality Laboratory reporting to the Field Crops Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Turkey, obtaining theoretical information on quality analyses and touring through the laboratory. Then, the Food Engineering Department of Hacettepe University and their laboratories were visited, and possibilities of academic cooperation were considered at the meeting with the Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Vural GÖKMEN.

To obtain information on artisanal production of bakery products, Çayyolu Branch of Bonelli Food Industry & Trade Corp. was visited on 13 July 2016. The production equipment for bakery products were introduced and theoretical and practical information was given on the product range there.   

Afterwards, a pasta factory with high production technology and capacity was visited, touring through the factory production site and laboratory, and observing the production process from start to finish.

On 14 July 2016, two flour factories in Konya province were visited, and technical information was given on the production, packaging, storage and flour-wheat quality analyses, explaining Turkey’s competitive power and quality characteristics in wheat flour production.

Then, the Food Engineering Department of Konya Necmettin Erbakan University and their laboratories were visited, and detailed information was obtained on the Flour and Bakery Products Technology (Milling) Program of the Food Processing Department, and possibilities of mutual academic cooperation between the schools were considered at the meeting with Prof. Dr. Sayın Selman TÜRKER, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and other academicians.

The technical part of the visit was completed on 14 July 2016, and touristic trips were organized to Cappadocia on 15 July 2016 and to İstanbul on 16 July 2016, thus rounding off the delegation program.

In consequence of the visit, the academicians included in the delegation said they were impressed by the competence, experience, technological capabilities and competitive power of Turkey, emphasizing that they would like to make use of all kinds of cooperative possibilities with TFYI.
